Trainee Accountant

We are looking to recruit a Trainee Accountants into our 40 person VolkerRail Finance Team based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

This is an entry level role for someone just starting employment who has completed or is due to complete their A Levels or equivalent qualifications at college or 6th form.

The Trainee Accountant will play a key role within the Head Office finance function and will report into a member of the finance team. This position will suit someone who is bright, ambitious and proactive, with the aspiration of becoming a qualified accountant within the business.

The successful candidate will gain valuable mentoring in the role as well as study support towards the AAT qualification through the Apprenticeship Programme.

Key accountabilities

• Provide support to the VolkerRail Finance Team in all aspects of their roles.
• Assist in production of monthly management accounts. This will involve:

• assistance with posting journals where required.
• assistance with preparing analysis for management account preparation.
• analysis and notification to divisions of P-reg invoices, accruals and prepayments, and other items as deemed appropriate.
• assistance in producing supporting calculations for group reporting.
• Assist in producing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Reconcile stock records, receipt control accounts, and calculation and posting of stock provisions.
• Assist ensuring that the fixed asset register is maintained and kept up to date and to ensure that all supporting documentation is available for audit.
• Assist internal and external auditors with the gathering of information, allowing the audit team to form an accurate audit opinion.
• Any other ad hoc duties as deemed to be appropriate for the role.

Skills & experience

• Minimum of 2 A Levels (Maths/Accountancy essential) and 5 GCSE’s (grade 9-4).
• Any relevant experience of working in a business or accounts department would be beneficial but not essential.
• Excel knowledge essential.
• Any relevant business or accounting knowledge would be beneficial but not essential.
• Desire to partake in further education in an accounting field.
• Self-starter.
• Results driven.
• Completer / finisher.
• Attention to detail.
