Position Overview & Specifications

Overview
Wincanton is looking for a hands on, operational People Manager at our Sainsbury's Distribution Centre site in Sherburn in Elmet, Leeds.
You will support the General Manager and be responsible for a small People team and support the operations team with absence management, long term sick management, disciplinaries and grievances. The nature of the operation means that this is an on-site role.
This role supports around 1000 colleagues at present. Through TUPE, this will reduce by 75% next year and as such, this is a permanent opportunity but we are happy to consider a FTC for anyone who prefers a role supporting larger workforce long term. TUPE experience is not required and is not part of this role.
The salary is between £40,000 - £50,000 p.a depending on experience.
How will you contribute?
  • Ensuring the provision of a high quality people service to all stakeholders in all areas of HR including resourcing, employee relations, learning & development and reward and supporting the delivery of the people agenda supporting the customer and site requirements.
  • Supporting the management and a small people team with ER issues and providing generalist HR support and advice for the department as required.
  • Proactively facilitate and champion employee wellbeing initiatives across the site.
  • Ensuring all site and company policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Supporting ongoing volume recruitment in partnership with the resourcing team
  • Supporting large scale change projects and maintaining excellent relationships with our Trade Union Partners.
  • Playing an active role in forward thinking and fast action responses to the control of absence and retention ensuring contractual KPIs are achieved and maintained.
  • Supporting the Site team ensuring relevant management training is identified, sourced and delivered, promoting a culture of learning and development across site.
  • Proactively facilitate and champion employee engagement initiatives across the site .
  • Responsible for the development of the team of People Advisors and Assistants
  • Partnering the Health & Safety team and supporting H&S activities to reduce lost time incidents, Riddors etc. and assist the site teams achieving a zero-accident safety culture.

What will you bring?

  • Must be able to demonstrate relevant HR experience. Ideally CIPD qualified with hands on experience of dealing with high volume ER issues.
  • Able to apply high levels of common sense and logic to often delicate and complicated situations and therefore possess excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and varied environment, with experience in adapting to change based on business requirements
  • Sound knowledge of employment law.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact with staff at all levels.
