About The Company

An exciting opportunity to join an elite, London based Enterprise Cloud Platform Development team working on nationwide innovation projects within the UK energy sector.

Working alongside key stakeholders including UK Government departments, this is truly a unique opportunity to modernise the sector, reshape future regulation and help drive the UKs net zero energy ambitions through technological innovation.

The rapid uptake of low carbon technologies including heat pumps, electric vehicles and photovoltaics is driving massive demand for digital innovation within the energy sector. The team is charged with the exploration of data products and experimentation to find innovative new approaches, products and services for potential deployment on a national scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting rich analyses using a variety of analytics tools to provide actionable insights to the Project Director.
  • Proposing and supporting experimentation / innovation.
  • Supporting projects to drive better quality of experimentation – in ideas and insights.
  • Supporting the day-to-day experimentation/data queries and requests.
  • Developing and maintaining documentation, knowledge hubs and similar.

Required Skills

  • A love of data & highly analytical, enjoys translating complex data into valuable insights.
  • Exceptionally strong SQL and or Python / R to analyse large datasets.
  • Demonstrable commercial and business acumen - you're motivated by seeing real world improvements from your insights and modelling.
  • Experience with cloud computing ecosystems.
  • Exposure to and appreciation of software engineering best practices applied to data (eg. version control, CI/CD, InfoSec principles).
  • Strong programming skills as evidenced by earlier work in data science or software engineering.
  • Commercial experience applying ML techniques to drive demonstrable value.
  • An excellent command of Python and basic libraries for data science (e.g. NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn) and familiarity with a deep-learning framework (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe).
  • A solid grasp of supervised/unsupervised machine learning, model cross validation, Bayesian inference, time-series analysis, simple NLP or consuming APIs for models.
  • Ability to develop new algorithms when an innovative solution is needed is a fundamental skill.
  • Strong data visualisation skills using BI tool such as Tableau, Quicksight or similar.
  • Strong understanding of cloud based data services: including AWS.

Advantageous Skills

  • Previous experience working in or with the UK energy sector.
  • Experience with ETL tools, ideally Pentaho.
  • Experience with a wide range of SQL products ideally MSSQL, Vertica, Redshift, Snowflake and Presto.

  • Be highly experienced in the Agile methodology and processes with a hands-on approach to assist with the design and prototyping for product backlog and road-mapped features.
  • Be able to work towards deadlines, being personally resilient and able to handle, at times, the pressure of a demanding workload and complex client needs.

  • Guide the process of defining the scope of projects to come with an emphasis on technical feasibility.

Location

This role is primarily office based in the company’s recently renovated, stunning offices in North London (1 min walk from East Finchley tube on the Northern Line). We are looking for candidates with leadership qualities to help guide and support a close-knit team, accordingly we are not offering remote working options.
