Position Overview & Specifications

THE ROLE - Part-time (30 hours per week) / Permanent / Job description and application pack (including details on our benefits) are available to download from our website

CLOSING DATE - 14 May 2023 at midnight, with a proposed interview date of 17 May 2023

Are you a warm, kind person with a deep and committed religious faith or recognised philosophical belief, with a love of young people and a flexible approach?

We are seeking a Chaplain to manage our Chaplaincy Service across our West Sussex supported accommodation projects. You will work directly with young people aged 16-25, be responsible for the recruitment and management of Volunteer chaplains and be expected to make and sustain strong community links. Our chaplains (employed and voluntary) offer non-judgemental support to both residents and staff with their spiritual, emotional, and social wellbeing, supporting people of all faiths, no faith, and those exploring faith, belief and spirituality. Our Chaplaincy sessions centre around hospitality by providing a safe space to be heard, have fun and eat together. You will be part of a small and supportive employed chaplaincy team, and some wider housing teams, you (and your volunteers) will have a particularly important role at times of crisis and loss.

ABOUT YOU - We know that there are great candidates who will not fit everything described, or who have important skills we have not mentioned. If that is you, please do not hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself

A successful applicant will have a good understanding of their own faith or belief system, as well as some understanding of other faiths and belief traditions and a willingness to listen and learn. You will have the ability to actively listen to and support young people experiencing a range of potentially distressing situations including grief, trauma and poor mental health. You will have some understanding of safeguarding procedures and experience working with young people. Formal training in your faith tradition is also desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
