Bioscience - Technical Specialist Team Leader

The Role

The role will involve the overseeing of all aspects of laboratory operations including the preparation of samples, laboratory setup, equipment maintenance, housekeeping, purchasing, budget forecasting, record keeping, and health and safety. You will manage a small team of technicians.

Working closely with academic and professional service colleagues at all levels you will lead the effective use and developments of the laboratory environments, supporting undergraduate, postgraduate and research activity.

The Team

You will be a member of the Specialist Technical Services Team and contribute to initiatives and developments across the university.

A core function of the Technical Specialist role is to support and deliver high quality practical teaching, skills training and provide supervision and guidance to staff and students. You will be expected to support your team in achieving this.

Required skills and experience

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Technician that has a passion for teamwork and leading a small team of four technicians. This hands-on role will suit someone with a developed technical skill-set from a practical biological scientific lab background that also has a passion for developing others and getting the best out of a team. It is essential that you have excellent knowledge of health and safety procedures within a laboratory environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely and effectively with others is essential.

Prior experience of leading the management a technical facility is desirable.
